My motivation

I set a personal goal on 27 January 2019 to run the New York City Marathon on 1 November 2020 to celebrate a milestone birthday. I also set a goal on that date to continue with my charity work every year for various charities that I’m involved in. Given some recent health developments related to cancer with people that I’m extremely close to (incidentally, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Cancer myself in February 2020 but I’ve been fortunate enough to have recovered fully after undergoing chemotherapy treatment from March 2020 to May 2020), I’ve decided that it was appropriate to run this race in their honor with Movember and to create awareness around Men’s Health. Diagnosis does not mean a death sentence, provided that there is early detection and correct treatment. If I could help save just one life from this campaign, and they do the same by creating awareness around this issue, imagine the difference that can be achieved over time. So please think about the men in your life, be it your Dad, husband, brother, son, nephew, cousin, friend, neighbor, teacher, student, client, business partner, etc. that may have been affected negatively by these illnesses, and the contribution that they could still make in the World if they were still around and healthy to do so. I am thus humbly appealing to you to please make a contribution of whatever you can afford to this great cause because Cancer Can Be Beaten. I know that timing of this campaign is not the greatest given that the World is currently focusing on defeating Covid-19, but not let’s not forget the other causes that are also important. Funds raised from this campaign will be used towards providing over 90 prostate cancer patients at the Groote Schuur and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospitals with brachytherapy treatment which they would have otherwise not been able to afford as it’s often only provided for in the private healthcare sector. I thank you in advance for your support.
